What lies beneath the layered south pole of Mars? A recent measurement with ground-penetrating radar from ESA's Mars Express satellite has detected a bright reflection layer consistent with an underground lake of salty water. The reflection comes from about 1.5-km down but covers an area 200-km across. Liquid water evaporates quickly from the surface of Mars, but a briny confined lake, such as implied by the radar reflection, could last much longer and be a candidate to host life such as microbes. Битката при гр. Стара Загора е бойното кръщене на Българското опълчение.
Старозагорското клане е историческо събитие от 19 до 21 юли 1877 г., включващо избиване на българското население и опожаряването на град Стара Загора от османската редовна армия, включваща 48 хилядния албански корпус на Сюлейман паша с участието на черкези, командвани от Дай Ахмед. С навлизането си в града, (тогава с население около 25 500, най-големият български град) войниците на Сюлейман паша избиват 14 500 българи от града и селата южно от града, а други 10 000, предимно млади момчета, девойки и жени са отвлечени и продадени в робските пазари на Османската държава. Значителен брой българи са избити и в старозагорските села и по пътя им към Стара Загора.
