This two-phase award will facilitate completion of the doctoral dissertation and stablize the transition of highly talented Ph.D candidates from a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, engineering, statistics, data science, imaging, biochemistry and genetics into strong postdoctoral appointments that are focused on K, U or H research. It is anticipated that successful completion of this phased award will make the individual highly competitive for a subsequent NIDDK award (e.g., K99/R00, R01). Opportunities for career development activities relevant to their long-term career goals of becoming independent researchers will be provided.
